The company Gebr. Knechtli was founded on 1 February 1981 and is based in Kleindöttingen.
In the beginning, it mainly sold Citroen parts and then, after the takeover of Citroen by Peugeot, also Peugeot parts.

In 1998, the company moved to Lengnau and expanded its range to include Renault spare parts. In 2004, the sole proprietorship was converted into a public limited company.

A branch office was established in Germany in May 2008. 

Until August 2011, it was a purely family-run business, before the first employee was hired from outside the family. 

The new building in Tegerfelden was occupied at the end of 2017.
